We offer massage therapy services through the highly skilled application of various massage techniques. Jake Carr has over 1,000 hours of massage therapy education, double what is required in the state of Virginia to obtain licensure. After completing his initial education at Northern Virginia School of Therapeutic Massage he continued his massage journey by enrolling in the Advanced Neuromuscular Massage Therapy course at the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, California. There he gained a deeper understanding of the therapeutic properties of massage and an advanced understanding of how these strokes can effect one's muscular dysfunction on a cellular level. Jake is well versed in Swedish massage, deep tissue, sports massage, and trigger point massage but specializes in the application of neuromuscular massage techniques. He was taught directly by the program's founder, Cynthia Ribeiro, who is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and the former National President for the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).
Neuromuscular massage therapy is a methodical massage technique designed to address myofascial pain and muscular dysfunction. Through a strong understanding of the forces that damage soft tissue, the physiology of soft tissue healing, and how pain patterns manifest in the body, the therapist is able to apply a methodical H.O.P.R.S (History, Observation, Palpation, Range of Motion testing and Special testing) assessment process to build a multi-dimensional, biopsychosocial picture of what is happening within the client’s body. Utilizing this information, we can create detailed short and long-term plan to support a client’s healing process in collaboration with other health care professionals. Some specifics of the therapy include;
- Applying Trigger Point Therapy to alleviate myofascial pain caused by spasm at the neuromuscular junction
- Multi-directional Deep Transverse Friction to decrease and re-align scar tissue throughout the healing process
- Lymphatic Massage techniques to decrease the edema and metabolic waste that can accumulate during healing
- Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation to help the nervous system communicate more effectively with the musculoskeletal system
When scheduling with Well-Being Massage we treat every client as an individual and understand the body is a whole system that must be addressed as such. Thus, we schedule our appointments by the amount of time the client wishes to receive work. The specific parameters of the massage given is established through communication with the therapist either on your health history form submitted prior to service or through verbal communication with the therapist at the time of service. In this way, we can continue to address the importance of a holistic approach to massage whether you are looking to address a specific pain complaint or just relax.
We hope to serve your needs and facilitate the natural healing processes of your body so that you can live well.
